HINTS FROM TOKIO
NEW OFFENSIVE MOVES BY ALLIES (Rec. 11.50 am.) Washington, June 30. Tokio has been indulging in hits of new offensive moves by the Allies in the Pacific war. Berlin radio quoted a Tokio dispatch declaring that the Allies had 2000 planes concentrated on the Australian sector at the end of April, to which were added 200 during May. Tokio added that the enemy is expected to launch a big air offensive against the Japanese in that area because British and American attempts to pierce the Japanese “fortress” from India have so far failed. A Tokio radio commentator hinting that new American offensive operations were expected, warned Americans “not to try to take over any more Japanese islands. Your terrible losses at Attu proved how difficult and inexpedient it is for the United States to attempt to reach Japan island by island We know you are looking for a Siberian base, but you will never get it,” added the commentator.—P.A.
