INCIDENT CLOSED
CHIEF JUSTICE AND MAYOR OF WELLINGTON TWO FURTHER LETTERS Wellington. This Day. The following correspondence has been, handed to the Wellington papers for publication:— The Mayor’s Office, June 29. The Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers. PC., Chief Justice, Wellington. C.l Dear Chief Justice,—l leel I would like to send you a personal note about the recent civic reception. I hope that in view of the extremely short notice we had of General Frevberg’s arrival (received only on the day preceding the actual reception) and the difficulties to be overcome in arranging appropriate seating accommodation. you will understand that careful consideration before sending cards for platform seats was inevitable. 1 as host felt reluctant to inform you as guest of these domestic difficulties. 1 desire to assure you that the delay in the dispatch of your invitation was in no way intended to cause any offence to you or to your office. I trust that this assurance will help to remove any feeling to which this regrettable misunderstanding may have given rise and so be ihe means of restoring the mutual respect and good feeling which has existed between us r'or so many years.—Yours faithfully, T. C. A. HISLOP, Mayor Chief Justice's Chambers, June 29. His Worship the Mayor. Town Hall, Wellington. Dear Mr Mayor.—l am in receipt of your letter of this morning, and I accept th£ assurance therein contained and your expression of regret. So far as I am concerned the incident may now be regarded as forgotten.—Yours faithfully, MICHAEL MYERS.
