APPEAL FOR MEAT
PEOPLE OF BRITAIN Sydney, June 23. Australian producers have been appealed to by the Federal Controller of Meat Supplies, Mr Tonkin, to make available for early killing any fat stock they have. British civilians, he said, had been permitted to spend only Is 2d a week each on meat. Because of difficulties of supply, however, even this ration had been cut recently, and an appeal was made to Australia to provide increased shipments. Arrangements had been made by the British and Australian Governments for every ton of meat shipping space going to Britain to be filled. This could be done only if Australians ate and wasted less meat or if increased stock were made available by producers.
