AWARD FOR SECRET DEED

London, May 7. Captain (Temporary-Major) Cyril Arthur Joseph Martin. M.C., R.A., arrived on leave at his home at Worcester Park, Surrey, to be greeted by his wife with the news that he had won the George Cross. The gallantry which won him the award remains a secret. All the “London Gazette” says is that the award is in recognition of “most conspicuous gallantry in carrying out hazardous work in a very brave manner.” Major Martin won the Military Cross in the last war for putting out the flames in a blazing ammunition dump in France.
