OBITUARY

MRS LEWIS HINGSTON The death of Mrs Lewis Hingston, j who was formerly Miss Sarah Patch- i ing, the sixth daughter of the late | Mr and Mrs James Patching, occurred recently. Mr Patching, a Nelson j pioneer, was for many years in business as a brick and pipe manufacturer in upper Vanguard street. Mrs Hingston, who lived all her life in Nelson, had five brothers, Mr Jim Patching, of Avondale, Auckland, being the only one surviving her. He is nearly 80 years of age. Mrs Hingston was of a kind and friendly dis- * position, and had many friends. Mrs Hingston leaves a family of three daughters and two sons—Mrs C. Howes, Tahunanui; Mrs W. Mei- , klejohn, Alexandra; Miss Joan Hingston, Stoke; Messrs F. and M. Hing- i ston, of the West Coast. There are! eleven grandchildren. For many years Mrs Hingston was i a. regular attendant at the Congre- j gational Church, when the Rev. John : Beckenham, the Rev. Mr Isaacs and the Rev. Mr Thomas were the min- j isters. Mrs Hingston was Sunday j School teacher for a number of | years.
