CUTLERY AND CROCKERY
THEFTS FROM MASONIC LODGE Christchurch, June 25. Cutlery and silver valued at £37, and almost impossible to replace at the present time, were stolen recently from the Crowp Masonic Lodge at Sydenham. The thieves entered the building by a small window at the back of the premises, breaking the glass and tearing away the wire mesh which covered it. The articles comprised knives, forks and spoons in quantities of approximately 100 each. Several locks were damaged by the thieves in their efforts to break into cupboards. The theft of crockery from the Opawa Bowling Club’s premises 30me weeks ago was mentioned by Sub-, inspector Young of the Police Department, when he advised any persons who had crockery, cutlery and similar goods stored away to take precautions. There had been a considerable amount of this type of stealing, he said. Since the theft from the Crown Lodge, other Masonic Lodges in the city have decided to take precautions against theft, and members of the Barrington Bowling Club have removed the club’s stocks to their own homes until the playing season starts.
