DAY IN PARLIAMENT
FINANCIAL DEBATE INTERRUPTED MEMBERS HEAR GENERAL FREYBERG (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) The Financial Debate in the House of Representatives was interrupted yesterday to permit of the passage of an Imprest Supply Bill, voting two months’ supply to provide financial accommodation for State services. The total amount of schedules in the bill is £13,029,000. A Finance Bill containing a number of miscellaneous and validating clauses was also introduced and was read a first time. The annual Taxing Bill also made its appearance. This measure reimposes the rates of income and land taxes in operation last year. The House did not sit in the morning. Instead members of both branches of the Legislature assembled in the social hall to hear an address from Lieut.-General Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., General Officer Commanding the 2nd N.Z.E.F. A resolution was carried expressing appreciation to General Freyberg for his speech and for his personal consideration for the welfare of the division. Cheers were given for him and Lady Freyberg. The House rose at 5.15 p.m. for the week-end adjournment,
