UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS

RECENT BLITZING OF KREFELD 6000 DEAD AT BARMEN London, June 24. Numerous reports reaching neutral Industrialists maintaining business relations with Germany confirm that the air attack against Krefeld was an unprecedented success, says “The Times.” In addition to enormous damage inflicted on industrial enterprises, great destruction was wrought on supplies of stores awaiting dispatch to U-boat bases in France. All German direct rail traffic from the north and westward has been dislocated for some time by the almost continuous bombardment of the Ruhr. As a consequence the Krefeld station and marshalling yards were crammed with trains trying to pass the congested areas by circuitous routes. Storage sheds and also considerable quantities of motorised equipment from the east front were waiting dispatch to France. The destruction of Krefeld station means that German rail traffic westwards is also at a standstill. The neutral press emphasise that many U-boat motors, awaiting dispatch at Friedrichshafen were destroyed. Bombs also fell on a Dornier aircraft factory at Manzell near Friedrichshafen. German official figures state that 6000 are dead after the raid on Barmen. —P.A.
