THE KING IN NORTH AFRICA
SECOND STAGE OF TOUR VISIT TO DESERT AIR FORCE (Rec. 11.0 a.m.) London, June 24. His Majesty returned to Tripoli on the second stage of his tour of inspection of, British military units. The King to-day visited the Desert Air Force, who, fighting with the Eighth Army, helped to drive the Axis from Africa. At a sandy landing ground near the border of Tripolitania, states a Cairo correspondent, His Majesty inspected the air force and saw for himself how clean the sweep of enemy aircraft had been. Fighters and other aircraft were drawn up in straight lines with no attempt at dispersal throughout the long" rectangle of aircraft. During the visit a knighthood was conferred on Air Marshal Sir John Linnell, who was recently appointed deputy Air Officer Commander of headquarters of the R.A.F. in the Middle East.—P.A. and 8.0. W.
