NEW OFFENSIVE METHODS
GERMANY’S SUBMARINE WARFARE SURVEY OF ATLANTIC BATTLE (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) London, June 24. New offensive methods would be introduced into Germany's submarine warfare, a Nazi naval spokesman told neutral correspondents in Berlin. New types were being built as the enemy was too familiar with the old type. In an article surveying the Battle of the Atlantic, the “Yorkshire Post's” naval correspondent says the Germans claim to have sunk only 43,000 tons of shipping for a similar period last month. The figure 43,000 is even more remarkable when compared with June, 1942, when the Germans claimed to have sunk 755,000 tons. It must be remembered that all these figures are German, and computed specifically for general publication. Hitherto, the Germans have always exaggerated and generally grossly so, but whether this policy of exaggeration is being changed or not, such a remarkable drop in the achievements of their TJboats will be a difficult matter for Dr. Goebbels to explain to his public.— P.A.
