FORMER EAGLE SQUADRON
PLAQUES PRESENTED TO U.S.A.A F. FIGHTERS (Rec. 11.0 a.m.) Rugby, June 24. Three plaques commemorating the part played by the American Eagle Squadron in the R.A.F., were presented by the Duchess of Kent to the commanders of three United States Army Eighth Air Force fighter squadrons, members of which formerly served with the R.A.F. The Duchess of Kent said: “The King has gladly given permission for R.A.F. crests to be designed for those squadrons and approved and signed them.” -8.0. W.
WOMAN FLIGHT ENGINEER (Rec. 11.5 a m.) London, June 24. Slim, curly-headed Pat Parker, aged 29. is the first woman in England to gain an appointment as flight engineer. She serves with the Air Transport Auxiliary, delivering planes from factories to airfields. Her appointment means that all-woman crews may now fly the giant bombers—Halifaxes, Stirlings and Fortresses.—P.A.
