FIJIAN SUGAR STRIKE
ANOTHER MILL INVOLVED Suva, June 24. The Lautoka sugar mill strike has now spread to the Rarawai mill. It is believed that the strike originated m Majdur Sangh <lnd:an labour union l . result of a meeting of cane-grow - ers on Sunday, many have not proceeded with the harvesting. Sufficient has been harvested to start the Lautoka crushing on Tuesday, but the rmllhanri* struck for higher wages. Their demands appear to be influenced by the recruiting terms of the labour corps, and include free housing, medical and other services. The grow - ers are demanding 30s a ton. but the basic factor governing the cone price and the wages is eY'idently the price of the sugar, which is controlled by the Home Government.—P.A.
