HUNDRED YEARS AGO TO-DAY
A NELSON CHRONOLOGY 23rd June, 1843: The whaleboats came to us again this morning and took ashore Mr Spain the Government Commissioner, and some Wellington Magistrates (PI. St. Hill, C. Clifford. Col. Wakefield, Drs. Evans and Dorset.) They intend to proceed to the scene of the massacre and bury the bodies if not already buried by Mr Ironside, who we were informed had gone there for that purpose. —Barnicoat's Diary.
