BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
NELSON TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD The birthday party of the Nelson Townswomen’s Guild was held in the Marsden Church Hall, which was filled to capacity. The president, Mrs Page welcomed all present, especially the representatives of sister organisations from the city and the surrounding district. Mrs E. R. Neale replied on behalf of the city and Mrs A. R. Tuffnell for the country representatives. The musical circle provided an enjoyable entertainment. The stage had been decorated to represent a Gipsy encampment which, with the colourful attire of the members, made a very pretty scene. At the conclusion of this part of "the programme Mrs Page presented the leader of the circle, Mrs Claughton, with a small gift from the committee and circle members as a mark of their appreciation of her services to the guild for several years past. After a dainty afternoon tea had been served under the supervision of Mrs Wright the president presented shoulder sprays to retiring committee members and circle leaders. The playreading circle then gave an amusing sketch “The Speaker."
