Force of Over 100 Flying Fortresses

(Rec. 9.45 a.m.) London, May 31. An Algiers communique says: Over 100 Flying Fortresses yesterday attacked Naples. Bombs were dropped on an aircraft factory, also on a neighbouring airfield. A large explosion was caused in an oil storage depot and many fires started. “Fifty Liberators attacked Foggia airfields, scoring direct hits. “Wellington bombers from the North African Air Force on Saturday night attacked Pantellaria. Medium bombers on Sunday night attacked Sardinia and Pantellaria. Pantellaria was well covered with bombs and fires started. “Bomb-carrying Lightnings attacked ports and railways communications in Sardinia. Bombs burst on marshalling yards, a transformer station, railway stations, and dock installations. Fourteen enemy planes were shot down. One of ours is missing but the pilot is safe.”
