SOLDIERS' GIFT PARCELS

ARRANGEMENTS FOR FORWARDING The Nationa* Patriotic Fund Board has issued a statement concerning contents of soldiers’ parcels and the quarterly delivery dates for shipment overseas. The number of parcels to be packed and forwarded from Nelson is 1610 per quarter and they are to be delivered at Wellington by a late date ip February. April and July, and for the Christmas parcels about mid-Oc-tober., The donor cards for the February parcels have t?een distributed to Patriotic Controlling Committees and those who are always so willing to provide a parcel can obtain cards from members of the respective committees. The women’s organisations of the city have collected nearly sufficient to fiil the city quota of 432, but 90 more are required. Messrs Buxtons Limited have again offered the facilities of their sports sales staff for the collection of moneys for this worthy object. Country people may make donations to soldiers' parcels at Buxtons and request the sales staff to mark on the receipt the name of the Patriotic Committee the donation is to be credited to. The parcels will again be attractive in appearance. being packed in a specially made cardboard carton and will bear a distinctive provincial district label.

The contents will include 1 tin fruit cake, 1 tin fruit. 1 tin milk or cream or coffee and milk, 1 tin jam. 1 tin of tongues or potted meat paste. 1 tin sweets. 1 packet razor blades. 1 handkerchief and some chewing gum. The cost of each parcel is approximately 8s each, but those people who feel they cannot afford 8s can obtain a donor card for 6s. the balance being made up from the common fund.
