HOME NURSING SECTION
The controller of the Home Nursing Section of the Takaka E.P.S. (Nora Humphreys) has submitted the following report on the section’s activities during the past year: “During the year 23* members have obtained St. John Home Nursing Certificates, while 8 of these also qualified for First Aid St. John Certificates. These 8 are at present undergoing a course in hygiene and sanitation. Three members have completed 60 hours V.A.D. training in the Nelson Public Hospital and 5 others hope to go early in 1943. One new member obtained all these certificates in another district. “In connection with the V.A.D. training I would like to place on record our appreciation of the courtesy and helpfulness of the staff of the Nelson Public Hospital; and to extend to the Central Committee our sincere thanks for their generous tssistance that made the trip to Nelson possible.
“On 19th July, 1942, a full day parade was held in conjunction with the First Aid Section when several weak points were revealed and later eliminated. On sth Sptember, 1942, the section was on parade during a try-out of the Takaka E.P.S. “The attendance at classes leaves room for improvement. It is hoped that on resumption after the extended holiday period classes will be better attended. The majority of members are keen as shown by the number of certificates gained during the year. . We desire to thank the Central Committee for obtaining two dozen blankets on our behalf The section is steadily acquiring equipment, much of which members are generously donating. “Throughout the year the Takaka St. John Division has been most helpful. All certificates are issued for St. John Headquarters, and the local Division has given every assistance to our members, making it possible for them to obtain these. In this connection the work of Dr. Bydder cannot be too highly praised, nis interest and his enthusiasm being an example to all.”
