STOKE-WAKATU W.I.
The first 1943 meeting of the StokeWakatu W.I. was held in the Stoke Hall, Mrs Ching presiding. A warm welcome was extended to all present. The motto for the month was: “Repartee is the soul of wit.” The roll call was “favourite colour for a bedroom,” pink and green being mostly favoured. Nomination for Nelson W.I. executive and the Stoke-Wakatu W.I. were received. It was reported that 10 soldiers and two nurses’ parcels had been sent forward. The competitions resulted:—“Best flower in my garden,” Miss St. John 1, Mrs W. Heath 2; eggs, Mrs Ching 1; cordial, Mrs Heath 1. A very enjoyable tup of tea was served by the hostesses under the supervision of Mrs Vivian, Mrs J. Gribble then demonstrated the spinning of wool from the fleece which was keenly followed by all and a very hearty vote of appreciation was accorded. The meeting closed with the New Zealand Song.
