N.Z. FORCES IN SOUTH PACIFIC WELLINGTON, This Day.—A delegation appointed by the War Cabinet has returned to New Zealand from a visit to New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga. The delegation, which comprised the~Minister of Armed forces, Mr Coates, Lieut.-General Puttick, Air Commodore Goddard, and Mr C. A. Berendsen, Secretary of the War Cabinet, met authorities directing the United Nations’ war effort in the South Pacific for the purpose of consultation on matters of common concern. The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to meet members of the New Zealand forces at various points and discuss with them their conditions and requirements. New Zealand troops everywhere were found to be in good shape and excellent heart. —P.A. DROUGHT BROKEN IN AUCKLAND AUCKLAND, 'This Day.—Heavy rain last night and to-day broke the long dry spell in Auckland, greatly benefiting farms and gardens and relieving the water shortage which was developing in country areas. NO LET UP IN CIVIL DEFENCE PRECAUTIONS AUCKLAND, This Day.—The Minister of Civil Defence, Mr Wilson, said in reply to a question after the air raid test in Auckland to-day, that there would be no relaxation of regulations and there was nothing to support the idea that civil defence precautions were less necessary than when the War Cabinet decided they should be maintained and increased. He added that he would discuss the position with Cabinet again when he returned to Wellington to determine whether there should be any change. NO SPECIAL EGG SUPPLIES FOR INFANTS AUCKLAND, This Day.—The statement of the Minister of Marketing, Mr Barclay, that mothers with infants were receiving priority in the distribution of egg supplies is denied in Auckland, where no scheme of this kind is yet operating. Infants’ diets are below Plimket in con-* sequence.—P.A, |
