ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO
A NELSON CHRONOLOGY 26th November, 1842: Wc regret that the meeting on the subject of a Municipal Corporation for Nelson should have ended as it has, believing that the best security for us from future misgovernment would have been the establishment of municipal institutions. It appears that the majority of those who attended the meeting thought otherwise, and alarmed by an exaggerated view of the consequent expenses, prefer to remain dependent on the maladministration of a Government notoriously inefficient even for a colonial one. —Sub-leader, “Nelson Examiner.”
