BAPTIST ANNIVERSARY

PRIZE-GIVING FUNCTION The Anniversary Services of the Nelson Baptist Sunday School were concluded with the customary concert, at which the prizes for the year’s work w’ere presented. Items were contributed by the Primary Department, who presented a picturesque missionary scene, the Cadets, who divulged some of the secrets of the baking trade, by the Girls’ Life Brigade and Boys’ Brigade, and by Miss Maida Robertson, who rendered a pianoforte solo. The Girls’ Life Brigade and the Boys’ Life Brigade produced a joint play dealing wflth the activities of their organisations, an effort which was brightened by a good deal of humour. The smooth production of a number of items was unfortunately marred by slight difficulties with the curtain, but these were overcome by good management and good humour all round. The choir again contributed several of their special numbers, which had aroused favourable comment on the previous day. During the evening a bouquet was presented to Mrs Cunningham for her services at the organ, and a buttonhole to Mr H. N. Toomer, acting superintendent, who trained the choir. The prizes were presented by Mrs Heslop, a teacher of very long standing. The following is the prize list which is not necessarily in order of merit.
