LOCAL BODY CONFERENCE

Eighty Delegates Attend NELSON-MARLBOROUGH AND BULLER DISTRICTS Unanimous Support for Completion of Railway Eighty representatives of local bodies and other semi-public organisations in the Nelson, Marlborough and Buller districts met in conference at Nelson to-day to discuss subjects for th e progress ancl development of the northern end of the South Island. The Mayor of Nelson (Mr E. R. Neale) extended a welcome to the delegates and expressed the hope that the conference would result in benefit to the whole of the area represented. It was decided to form a council of 12 to include four representatives from each of the Nelson, Marlborough and Buller-Inangahua combined districts, to be known as the Nelson, Marlborough, Buller-Inangahua Local Bodies’ Executive Council. Mr Neale was elected chairman of the conference. The conference was unanimous in its decision to urge the Government to complete the Nelson-Inangahua railway line as a necessary part of the South Island system.
