NELSON FIRE BOARD

17 CALLS DURING QUARTER REPORTED It was reported at yesterday’s meeting of the Nelson Fire Board that the Nelson Brigade had received 17 calls during the quarter ending 30th September. The total included two justifiable false alarms. Members present were: Messrs E. R. Neale (chairman), K. Mason, C. W. Miller, S. McArthur, and the Hon. W. Black, M.L.C. No tender having been received for the staff houses it was decided to communicate with the Housing Department on the matter. The appointment of A. Chapman as foreman was approved. Authority was given for the covering of the suction hose with canvas, the superintendent, Mr A. J. Drummond, having reported that due to instruction of the brigade and the E.P.S. the suction hose was getting greatly increased use. The question of the promotion of one of the permanent staff to the position of station officer was deferred till the next meeting.
