AUSTRALIAN-BUILT DESTROYER

SUCCESSFUL SPEED TRIALS (Rec. 12.30 p.m.) Sydney, This Day. The Australian-built Tribal class destroyer Arunta, manned by an Australian crew, has successfully undergone her speed trials. She is the largest Australian built naval vessel to be commissioned for 12 years. Tests demonstrated the vessel’s high turn of speed and remarkable manouevrability. The Arunta’s top speed is not disclosed but Tribal class destroyers in the British Navy are officially credited with 36 knots. The Arunta’s engines are also Australian built. Her name is that of one of the most .virile Centralia native tribes. —P.A.
