U.S. ECONOMIC MISSION
TO VISIT AUSTRALIA MORE RAW MATERIALS REQUIRED (Rec. 1.40 p.m.) Canberra, This Day. America is sending a special economic mission to Australia to procure bigger quantities of raw materials for war industries. It is understood that the mission will propose that American business concerns should invest large sums of money to help in the develop-
men of Australia’s mineral resources. Some of the commodities wanted by America in increasing quantities are zinc, lead and copper. America is also taking from Australia heavily increased quantities of wool, all kinds of skins and some sugar. Four or five specialists will shortly come to Australia representing the United States Board of Economic Warfare. They will be permanent representatives of the board in Australia to assist the supply problems of the two nations. The board handles private as well as Government transactions and thus differs from the lease-lend mission | which deals exclusively in Government j exchange of supplies.—P.A.
