10,000 ACRES NECESSARY IN N.Z. SAME PRICES AS LAST YEAR Y ellington, This Day. “The increasing demand for maize for poultry and pig farmers and for the manufacture of . starch and cornflour has made it necessary that 10,000 acres be planted this year,” Mr Barclay. the Minister of Agriculture, said to-day. A recent survey of the position in production centres indicated that despite labour shortage and other difficulties growers were a special effort to reach the minimum acreage required. The Minister added that prices lor the crop would be the same as those paid last year: 5s 6d for the July delivery, rising by regular increments to 6s 2d for the March to June deliveries, these prices being sacks in on trucks or f.0.b., subject to merchants* commission of 5 per cent. —P.A.
