SCHOOL CLOTHES
RATIONING DIFFICULTY Clothes rationing as it affects school pupils came under brief discussion at the meeting of the Nelson College Council of Governors last night. Mr D. F. Horlor said he believed that there was some difficulty in obtaining white socks for girls and he wondered whether the council could authorise the girls to go without socks in the summer. Mr C. Milner agreed that he did not see why this should not be done. This prompted the question of coupons for schoolboys. "I think there* should be some increase for schoolboys.” remarked the chairman. Mr C. R. Fell. Adults did not grow out of their clothes as schoolboys did. He estimated that a boarder commencing school needed 1A years’ coupons for a full outfit. Even if the council relaxed the requirements for school uniforms the pupils would still need to have the quantity of clothes. The chairman asked the lay members of the council to inquire into the question of girls going without socks and to report to the council.
