BOMBAY DISORDERS
TEN DEATHS REPORTED WORK AT MILLS INTERRUPTED TRAMS STONED BY CROWDS London, Aug. 10. The “Daily Telegraph” says more than 250 were arrested in disorders in Bombay, Allahabad, Ahmadabad, Lahore, and Nagpur. The “Daily Express” New Delhi correspondent says the Government is increasing railway workers’ living allowances at an annual cost of £4,000,000. This aims at ensuring the loyalty of vital transport workers. The speed with which the new allowances was sanctioned and the magnitude of their scale is unprecedented in India. It is disclosed in Bombay that a total of ten died from bullet wounds as results of the rioting yesterday. Work in some mills was interrupted to-day. Students at a number of schools and colleges came out in some of the northern areas of the city held up and stoned trams. • Tram and bus traffic was suspended on several routes except in the fort area.—P.A. (Rec. 12.45 p.m.) At New Delhi the police used barbed wire to prevent mobs proceeding to the Imperial Secretariat.
