Lieutenant L. A. Palmer, Ist Battalion, The Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast Regiment, is promoted to Captain (temp.). Friends of Lt.-Col. N. W. R. B. Thoms, formerly of the N.Z. Staff Corps, who was stationed in Nelson for some time, will be pleased to hear that he is well and still serving his country. He left New Zealand some years ago to take charge of the Shanghai Police Force. He is now a Wing-Commander in the R.A.F., in command of a training establishment in Northumberland. Lieutenant (temp. Captain) S. E. West, the Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast Regiment, is promoted to be Major on the New Zealand Temporary Staff. Mr and Mrs J. H. Rankin, High street, Motueka, have received advice by cable in regard to their son 2nd Lieut, H. Rankin, who was recently dangerously wounded while serving in the Middle East, that his condition is improving.
