ROWING COMPETITIONS
NEW ZEALANDERS AND CAIRO CLUB (N.Z.E.F Official News Service) Cairo, Aug. 6. New Zealand oarsmen won the first competition for the Freyberg Cup, don. ated by the General for competition between New Zealand troops in Egypt and the Cairo Rowing Club, when a programme of races was rowed on the Nile last week-end The New Zealanders won by 20 points. Sixteen teams from the Division and Base Camp included many well known Wanganui and South Island oarsmen. The races were of a high standard. Freyberg Cup medals for members of the winning teams were presented by Brigadier A. S. Falconer. D. 5.0.. M.C. at the conclusion of the programme. The cup was later handed over to the Cairo River Club to be held for annual competition. Results : Open Fours: New Zealand Division (Fowler (stroke). Hegalun.
