WAKEFIELD
COMPETITION TO ASSIST PATRIOTIC FUNDS At a meeting of the Wakefield district Patriotic Committee at which representatives of the W.W.S.A. and the National Savings Committee were present by invitation \\|iys and means of | raismg money for the Fighting Forces Appeal and aiso attaining the district’s quota was discussed at length. Arrangements for a complete cover of the district by collectors for the sale of coupons was made. A sub-committee was also set up for the purpose of in- ' vestigaling a suggestion for a "Belle of the Ball” competition. This committee :at a late meeting proceeded with the j suggestion and arranged for the Wake- ; field area being divided into three sec- | lions, namely Gibbs-Bridge Valley, Wai-iti-Pigeon Valley, and 88 Valleyj Wakefield. Each of these sections, together with Foxhill and Belgrove is to be represented by a "Belle'’ at a ball to be held at Wakefield in September. The i following "Belles” were then selected by ballot: Gibbs Valley-Bridge Valley. iMiss Nancy Gibbs. Wai-iti-Pigeon Val--1 ley. Miss Marjorie Fowler; 88 Valleyj Wakefield. Miss Tui Springer. The canj didate for the Foxhill-Belgrove area was left to that district to arrange. Energetic committees have already I been formed by each candidate and the (success of the competition is assured.
