HOW TO RECOGNISE AIRCRAFT
Kawanisi Type !)1 Reconnaissance Seaplane.—Although this aircraft was designed in 1934. it is still employed by the Japanese Naval Air Service. It is primarily intended for use as a reconnaissance aircraft, although no doubt it could carry bombs.
Principal Structural Features. —It is ja single-engined biplane mounted on (twin floats. The wings are staggered land of equal size, the leading and jtrailing edges being straight and the i wing tips rounded. The inter-plane struts are N shaped, and. there are I additional short struts connecting the fuselage to the upper and lower wings. The engine is of the “in-line” type and the nose is pointed. The twin floats I are not widely spaced and are mounted by two pairs of struts from each side | of the bottom of the fuselage. The leadling edge of the tailplane is straight, the tips rounded, and the assembly carries through the taper of the fuselage. There are two cockpits. Special Recognition Points.—Staggered, straight-edged wings, sharp nose, twin floats, straight edge to tailplane. Dimensions. —Span 46th, length 34ft, or slightly smaller than the Vincent aircraft.
