MOTUEKA

NO A. AND P. SHOW THIS YEAR DIFFICULTY OF TRANSPORT j DECISION AT ASSOCIATION MEETING ! At a meeting of the Motueka Agricultural and Pastoral Association held on Saturday evening the question of holding a show this year was fully discussed. The majority of the members expressed the view that it would be inadvisable to hold a show, and a resolution to this effect was passed. Mr D. I. Llewellin said he had stated at the annual meeting that he would support the holding of a show: but he had since been convinced that with the difficulties of transport, petrol and tyre restrictions, and the fact that there would be a definite shortage of show stock it would be unwise to proceed with the matter. Mrs A. D. Taylor thought other sections of the show would be affected, especially the school section, as she understood that on this occasion the Association would not have the support of the teachers. Mr R. Teece stated that he had not changed his opinion since the last meeting. He felt the Association would have the co-operation of the children and teachers if required but he was satisfied the time was not opportune to hold such a function. Mr C. A. Newport informed the meeting that district exhibitors had told him that it would be impossible for them to exhibit this year. Mr W. Camp suggested the holding of a smaller show than usual but deI precated the idea of allowing the fixture for 1942 to lapse altogether. Mr F. Teece expressed the opinion that a farmers’ gala day should be organised in lieu of the show for th ' purpose of maintaining interest in the Association, and moved accordingly. The motion was lost on a show of hands, j Mr O. C. Wilkinson pointed out that the Association must have the assistance of ail members if any function was to be a success, and this ‘ l not seem possible as the country members had intimated their inability to attend on account of petrol re rictions. The secretary was requested to advise the community sing comrqittje that the Association was not in a position at present to organise a function, but would assist in raising patriotic funds at a later date. It was decided that every effort be made to collect members' subscriptions fur the current year and that these be applied to the land purchase account. It was also resolved that the secretary make an appeal to members for contributions towards the land purchase fund. The Association agreed to make an application for a fuither lease of the showground. It was also agreed that full control of the affairs of the Association be delegated to the executive committee until I the next annual meeting.
