MONTHLY MEETING TO-DaJC The monthly meeting ot the Njjjon Chamber of Commerce held this «- ing was attended by Messrs L. B**H. Baigent (chairman), F. G. Gibbs, W. A. Armstrong. H. G. B. Hurst, L. W. Field, Dr S. A. Gibbs and Mr E. R. Neale (secretary). The meeting passed a vote of symI pathy to the relatives of the late Mr B. Trathen, members standing as a mark of respect. The chairman. Mr Baigent. said Jllflt Mr Trathen had been one of the oldest and most respected members of the chamber. He was the immediate jfllgt president and was one who always- km*' his best possible service to the of the organisation.

FIREWATCHING

Referring to the decision at the Set meeting to call a special meeting3)' consider E.P.S. firewatching the chawr man pointed out that the meeting not been called owing to the conttn©! uncertainty on what was required by the regulations. The secretary explained that the necessity for a special meeting now did not exist. The District Controllers had been told in Christchurch that the New Plymouth system for the employment of patrolmen in the streets for secondary towns was working satisfactorily. However, the regulations had not yet been amended and he thought that no definite action would be taken until the requirements of the amended regulations were known. The Associated Chambers of Commerce advised that remits for the annual conference could be submitted up to the 10th September.
