CARGO PLANE CONSTRUCTION
EVIDICNCt BEFORE SENATE COMMITTEE (Rec. 1.50 p.m.) Washington, Aug. 10. Senator Lee chairman of the Military Affairs Sub-Committee investigating cargo plane construction, in the Senate to-day demanded that the army and navy be made subordinate to the air arm because air power will win the war. The army and navy should be auxiliaries and the air arm should be in charge of strategy. He declared that in the battles of the Coral Sea and Midway the navy did not fire a single gun except into the Lexington. Senator Lucas asked whose judgment should be taken, that of Senator Lee or experts on whose training they had spent millions? Senator Lee replied that time and time again Army and Navy experts had been proved wrong. Hitler had over ruled his generals and made air power the spearhead of every successful campaign. “Well.” Senator Lucas replied. “Hitler is not going to win the war.” —P.A.
