FERTILISER SUPPLY
APPEAL TIME EXTENDED FOR FARM QUOTA W’cllington, This Day. Appeals for organic fertiliser such as blood and bone, bonedust, and dried blood may be lodged up till the end of August instead of till 15th August, but appeals for phosphatic fertiliser cannot be considered at present, according to the president of the New Zealand Fertiliser Merchant Distributors’ Federation, Mr P. J. Oakley. Under the new fertiliser control order, organic fertiliser which last year could be purchased in addition to phosphates is now rationed. A farmer is entitled to 28 per cent, of the annual amount used in the two years ended 31st May, 1941, and the claim to that amount should be addressed to the fertiliser appeal committee at the district offices of the Department of Agriculture. For topdressing 70 per cent of the last year’s phosphatic allocation will be available. For new grass after crop the quantity has been increased from threequarters of a hundredweight to one hundredweight. Small users can secure their requirements up to 1891 b of fertiliser at any one time for use in gardens. Market gardeners are entitled to lOcwt. phosphatic fertiliser an acre, but they are in addition permitted to purchase any quantity of organic fertiliser for the growing of vegetables.—P.A.
