GIRL WHO WON’T WEAR TROUSERS London, July 24 Olive Gladys Lewer-Clarke claimed exemption from military service before a tribunal on the grounds that she might be compelled to wear trousers which would be against the Biblical injunction. Her father said : The Bible says the wearing by women of men's clothing is an abomination unto the Lord ” He referred to Deuteronomy xxii. verse 5: “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment; for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God. A memoer of the Tribunal said:— 'Those were the days when men wore skirts. Exemption was granted provided the girl worked in a hospital.
