MERCHANT SEAMEN
GOVERNMENT SUPPORT TO CONTINUE Rugby. July 26. Support given by the Government to merchant seamen would continue after the war and would make the calling of the sea rank among all technical and skilled trades with proper apprenticeship and proper accommodation in ships. Mr Bevin. Minister of Labour and National Service, said when opening a merchant navy hostel at Cardiff The war had made the whole world ship conscious and everyone now realised how the world’s happiness, wealth and prosperity depended on sea communications. He would never rest until the day arrived when workers had Rood wages, conditions, environment and standard of living These were the most economical things employers could bring into industry and the world was awakening to that fact —B.O.
