F. Allen, 0.8. E., whose death in action was announced yesterday, was an officer of the New Zealand Staff Corps and for a period was attached to Army Headquarters. For some time after the start of the war he wa s area officer at Hamilton. He commanded the Divisional Signals overseas and was then appointed to command the Central Infantry Training Depot. Early this year he 'was commanding officer of the 21st New Zealand Battalion, in succession to Lieu-tenant-Colonel J. M. Allen, also killed in action. He received the 0.8. E. for services in Greece and Crete. His wife lives at Karori. Wellington.
