THE NEW OAKS STAKES

(Rec. 10.15 a.m.) London, June 12. The New Oaks Stakes at Newmarket resulted: His Majesty’s Sun Chariot 1; East Glen 2: Payroll 3. Won by a length, one and a half lengths. Time, 2.33 1-5. Gordon Richards rode Sun Chariot. This is the first time a royal owned horse has won this race. Sun Chariot has now won seven of eight races, winning a total

of £6585. Men crowded the stand and waved their hats, cheering tremendously. There was another burst of cheering when the winner was led to the saddling enclosure. The crowd at Newmarket was big with a large number of cars but many hundreds were forced to walk to the course owing to lack of transport.—P.A.
