DOVEDALE BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Dovedale branch of the Women’s Division was held recently. In the absence of the president (Mrs S. Win) Mrs P. C. Burnett was in the chair. The past president and secretary, Mesdames N. A. Win and Fowler, were each presented with a beautiful piece of pottery in appreciation of the splendid work they had done on behalf of the W.D. Results of the monthly competition were as follows: Plate of biscuits made without sugar, Mrs L. Hall 1. Mrs N. A. Win 2. Mrs P. C. Burnett 3; flower competition. Mrs C. Jordan 1, Mrs N. A. Win 2. Miss J. Cowin 3. A dainty supper served by the hostesses, Mrs A. Crerar and Miss J Cowin, brought a very happy evening to a close. STOKE BRANCH The annual meeting of the Stoke branch of the W.D.F.U. was held recently. Mrs Childs (president) was in the chair. There was a smaller attendance than owing to the seasonable work in the district. The minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed. After the reading of the balance, sheet it was decided to send £5 to the Stoke Patriotic Fund. The president submitted the annual report which was interesting and comprehensive, and Mrs Childs was heartily thanked. The election of officers for 1942 was as follows:—Mrs Hodge, president; vicepresidents, Mesdames Lawry and Marshall: secretary and treasurer, Mrs Rob- j inson; trustees, Miss Black and Mrs Allen; housekeepers’ advisory members. Miss Black and Mrs Hay; the delegates to the executive meetings to be chosen at the June meeting. The committee were to remain in office until June with the addition of Mesdames Stead, Officer, and Phipps. The meeting closed with the National Anthem. The eighth annual birthday party was held in the Stoke Hall in May. Mrs Hodge presided and gave a hearty welcome including visitors. Owing tc the petrol restrictions the invitations had not been so widely sent out, but the afternoon was very enjoyable. Mrs Lawry delighted us with two solos and Misses Cook and Boyes gave some amusing elocutionary items. Mrs Campbell had arranged some novel and very humorous competitions. A presentation of three dainty cake plates was made by the president (Mrs Hodge) to Mrs Childs (former president), Mrs Campbell (secretary) and Mrs Wearing (treasurer), special mention being made of \\\<y. splendid work during the past year. Afternoon tea was served, after which members and friends spent the rest of the time in social ' '.tercourse.
