CANADA’S PRICE CEILING AVOIDING INFLATION THREAT Ottawa, April 24. After five months application Canada's price ceiling holds. Increase} in the cost of living, as recorded by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics, are minor. The threatened inflation has been avoided. To date, subsidies paid iby the Commodity Prices Stabilisation Corporation in the maintenance of the ceiling total only 2.128.981 dollars ali though the estimates provide a vote j of 50,000.000 for possible subsidy pay- ! ments during the preset;* fiscal year, j An industry or trade receiving a sub- ! .sidy is required to bear part of the j increased cost in respect of which the ' subsidy is paid. Further, every effort |is being made by the Government 11 induce business and industry :o reduce costs through standardisation, simplification and the elimination of needless | frills. Individual cases developed .-.seemly where the payment of a subsidy on imported goods provided a cost lower ceiling. In these instances the wholesalers and retailers had lo pass along the saving.
