CONSOLIDATION OF IMPORT ORDERS
AUCKLAND CHAMBER OI COMMERCE AGREES Auckland. April 28. The chamber of commerce to-day agreed ns a war measure to co-oper-ate with the Government in the importation of essential goods and re commended trade groups to consolidate then orders. The chairman, Mi Eady. said that from convincing evidence submitted by Mr Bromley, of the Ministry of Supply, it was clear that in certain essential lines export control in North America necessitated consolidation of New Zealand orders. Such bulking would, with the promised Government support, ensure higher export and shipping priorities and more rapid dispatch of goods needed for the war. With the full knowledge of the sacrifices involved, he recognised that the chamber should co-operate. Mr Gainor Jackson maintained that Mr Bromley had not put forward one ! constructive argument. His proposals did not permit bulking by trade groups, whose full representations should be considered. Mr Norman Spencer said Mr Brom ley made it clear that the Government wanted consolidation by trade groups. After a discussion in committee the chamber adopted the following resolution: “That as a war measure the chamber will co operate with the Gov eminent in such action as is necessary lor the importation of essential goods trom North America and recommends to trade groups the consolidation of orders from North America of essential goods involving the use of materials specified as critical in Canada or the United States, provided consolidation ot' orders will not be requested by the Government alter Canada or the United States have indicated that they do not require such consolidation." —P.A.
