The Admiralty states : “Further loss has been inflicted by our submarines on enemy supply ships in the Mediterranean. A large sup ply ship has been torpedoed and sunk. This ship was heavily laden and from the explosions which took place on hoard it is probable she was carrying munitions. An armed petrol carrier was successfully attacked by gunfire and it was leftabandoned and burning fiercely. A large laden schooner and an enemy minesweeper have also been sunk.” BOW. BENGHAZI RAIDED MALTA’S ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNS BUSY (Roc. 1.0 pan.) Rugby, April 28. An R.A.F., Middle East Command, Command, communique states: “Our bombers on Sunday night raided the harbour at Benghazi and enemy landing grounds at Martuba. Other aircraft operated against camps in the Tmimi area. There was little air activity in the forward area in Cyrenaica on Monday. Enemy shipping in the Mediterranean was attacked on Sunday night and a probable torpedo-hit was scored on a medium-sized vessel. “Two Junkers 88 and one Messerschmitt 109 were shot down by anti-air-eral't fire at Malta on Monday. It is now learned that three further Junkers were destroyed on Sunday’s raid on Malta. From all operations two of our aircraft are missing.” Malta’s anti-aircraft guns on Tuesday morning destroyed one enemy bomber and damaged two others, while R.A.F. lighters damaged one bomber and one fighter. Early in the afternoon guns damaged two bombers. There were casualties and damage to civilian property.
