BRIGHT MOON AT COLOGNE

CITY LAID OUT LIKE MAP BIG FIRES LEFT BURNING (Rec. 1.20 p.m.) Rugby, April 28. The raid on Cologne last night was made in exceptionally clear weather, with not only no trace of clouds in the sky but a strong east wind blew away the smoke and haze which often lies over this district. A brilliant moon lit rivers, streets and factories as the bombers went over. The enemy had many night fighters up and it was the kind of night on which German pilots must have been able to see the bombers from a mile or two away. One of our bomber pilots said the whole city was laid out before him as on a map. “We ran over a railway bridge then dropped bombs. Good fires were burning and some of the bigger fires seemed to be joining up with each other as we left.” BRIEF ATTACKS ON ENGLISH COAST A few enemy r aircraft made brief attacks on two districts on the south coa?t of England this morning. Some casualties were reported at one place and some damage. An enemy r bomber harmlessly dropped bombs on the south-east coast of England to-night.—8.0. W.
