FIRE AT HOPE
BIG SHED DESTROYED MOTOR TRUCK AND i’RODUCE BURNT DAMAGE ESTIMATED \T 121 iSU ‘ Damage estimated at LI4BO was done when a shed belonging to Mr P. W. Hall. Hope, was burnt to the ground <•11 Friday morning. A motor truck, produce and timber were all destroyed. The cause of the lire is not known. When Mr Hall inspected the Hied, which is situated on the by-road at Hone, at 7 o’clock the previous evening everything was in order. Al 3 o’clock in the house nearby saw the light "of a fire and the shed was a mass of flanioy. It was a big building approximately 3(5 foot by (JO feet, and the glare could be soon for miles. By the time Mr flail reached the shed there was no chance of saving anything inside, as the flames wore pouring out of the door. However, one of his two trucks had been left just outside the door, and he was able to get this away safely. A truck inside was completely destroyed, and among other contents which went up in (lames were 20 tons of hay. (U bags of clover seed valued at LVU. seven or eight lyres, spare wheels, tubes and ropes, 2000 feet of birch timber. 1000 fruit cases, and all the office equipment and records. I’lie total damage is estimated at LI4BO. The building was insured with the Royal Insurance Company for LSOU and the contents for L4OO. Fortunately there was no wind blowing at the time, otherwise a timber yard alongside and the house nearby would have been endangered.
