HEAVIER TAXATION AND ECONOMY Canberra, Jan. 2.’ Heavier indirect taxation, new loan; and economy in spending by Stat Governments will probably contribut towards the extra expenditure neces sitated by the enery of Japan into Ih war and estimate is that the war ex penditure will exceed £250,000.000 b the end of the financial year, instead (. £221.000,000 provided for in the las budget. The Federal Cabinet is also cxpecte to impose new indirect taxation t raise another £2.000.000 which is need ed to increase old age and invalid pen sions from 23s 6d to 25s a wcek.U.P.A.
