1 HEAVY ENEMY CASUALTIES ATTACK MADE ON PERAK FRONT LOSS OF IPOH NOT CONFIRMED (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) Rugby, Dec. JO. This morning’s communique from Singapore states: "On the Perak front the enemy put in a strong attack last night but suffered heavy casualties. Elsewhere in Malaya there is no change in the situation. Enemy aircraft made a further raid on Kualantan yesterday causing no damage or casualties. “Reports now received show that an enemy raid on Kulang yesterday caused only slight casualties and there was no damage dune to the aerodrome. In an enemy air attack on the railway station a large labour force which happened to be there behaved with great calmness. “Enemy aircraft made four raids on Singapore last night. There was some damage done to thatched buildings which set a small petrol store on fire. So far only four casualties have been reported. Allied aircraft carried out a number of successful reconnaissances yesterday. There is still no confirmation in authoritative circles in London of the loss of the important tin centre of Ipoh. —B.O. Tlie new Japanese offensive in central China continues. To-day’s Chungking communique says the Chinese are vigorously resisting the enemy along the north Hunan front, in southern central China. Very heavy losses have been suffered by both sides. The Japanese have been driven back to their original positions south-east of Kweichih. One enemy detachment is surrounded. Enemy forces were routed at another point nearby, suffering heavy losses. The Chinese lines north-east of Wunin Hsien are holding firmly. The Huan battle is being | fought in a heavy snowstorm. A Chungking message says that Ad- j miral Chan-chek, the Chinese repre- i sentative in Hong Kong, escaped by boat at the last minute and has arrived at a northern Kwangtung village with 100 Chinese soldiers who took part in the Hong Kong defence.
