Mrs John Griffith, of 117 Waimea street. Nelson, will celebrate her 93rd birthday to-morrow. Mrs Griffith was born in Perthshire. Scotland, and came tc Nelson in the ship Lady Nugent in 1850. She has lived in the Nelson district ever since. Of a family of nine, seven are living, and her descendants now live in various parts of New Zealand, Australia and the United States. Mr S. G. Griffith, of Dunedin, is a visitor to Nelson to attend to-morrow's birthday party. .News has been received of the movements of the London Missionary Society’s representatives in the Gilbert Islands. The Revs. G. H. Eastman and A. L. Sadd have chosen to stay among their people during Japanese occupation. Mrs Eastman and Miss Pateman have been evacuated. The Rev. and Mrs J. H. Spivey, who have been on furlough, have not yet returned, and will no doubt remain in Australia. Advice I.as been received by Mr and Mrs E. R. Blewett, of 141 Upland road, remuera, and formerly of the Nelson Post Office staff, that their son, Flight-Lieutenant Richard Trevor Blewett, has been reported pissing. Flight-Lieutenant Blewett, who is aged 24, was promoted to his present rank last month. He had been a member of the Air Force Reserve and distinguished himself during his period of training, passing out f Ohakea at the top of his flight. He served with the No. 110 (Bomber) Squadron of the Royal Air Force. Advice has been received that Mr Rex W. Sadd of the Bank of New* Zealand staff. Dunedin, has passed in final subjects for Accountancy and is nowr entitled to a full certificate. Mr Sadd, who secured his Banking Diploma in 1940 is the youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. B. Sadd of Nelson. The appointment of Norman Alfred Barnett as a lieutenant in the Golden Bay Battalion of the Home Guard has been gazetted
