AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND REMARKS BY MR NASH Melbourne, Ocl. 27. Before leaving for Canberra to-night the New Zealand Minister of Finance. Mr Walter Nash, said that lie had been listening to the discussions of the War Council and had taken the opportunity to tell Mr J. Curtin exactly how the New Zealand Government saw the situation. ••I made it clear that New Zealand realises that the defence of the two countries is closely linked,” said Mr Nash. ‘‘The discussions with the chiefs of .staff concerned the question of Australia and New Zealand giving maximum aid to one another. “I also discussed the possibility of New Zealand obtaining supplies from Australia without, affecting the overseas war effort of Australia and have taken up in New Zealand the possibility of supplying certain war materials to Australia.” Mr Nash emphasised that the discussions so far were preliminary and would be continued in Canberra.
